Legal
Terms of use
Parties and scope
These terms govern the contract between Dennis Wiebler, trading as linkage, Tarnowitzer Straße 14a, 81929 München, Germany (“we”, “us”), and you as the holder of a test account (“you”). They cover your use of linkage at getlinkage.com and lnkg.link during the closed beta.
People who receive a link and download a file are not parties to this contract. These terms do not bind them. How we handle your data and theirs is set out in the Privacy notice.
You reach us at contact@getlinkage.com. Notices about content go to abuse@getlinkage.com (see Report a link). Our full details are in the Legal notice.
We write to you by email at the address of your account. Until linkage can send email to you, these emails come from the personal address of Dennis Wiebler.
The beta
linkage is in a closed beta. We invite testers personally, and only we create test accounts.
- The test account is free of charge. We charge nothing for the beta.
- Your test account has the features of the Pro plan, so that you can test them.
- There is no entitlement to a test account, to features or limits beyond those set out in these terms, or to a paid plan later. How features and limits may change is set out in the section “Availability, backups and data loss”.
- The test account never turns into a paid plan by itself. If we offer paid plans later, you decide whether to sign up for one; that needs a separate contract.
Prices and other plans on the Plans page are not part of this contract.
How your test account is set up
- We create your test account with your email address and give you a personal sign-in link. It works once and stays valid for 7 days.
- You open the link. The sign-in page shows a “Sign in” button, the date of the version of these terms and links to these terms and to the Privacy notice. The links open in a new tab and lead to the English versions; each of these pages links to its German version. Opening the link alone changes nothing.
- When you click “Sign in”, you accept these terms and the contract is concluded. The page then confirms the sign-in and names the version of these terms you accepted.
You enter no data when you sign in. If you do not want to sign in, close the page; the link then expires unused. If your account has a wrong email address, or you signed in by mistake, write to contact@getlinkage.com. We then end that account's access and, if you wish, create a new account with the right address.
This version of the terms is dated 3 October 2026. It is available on this page, where you can save or print it. Your account stores which version you accepted and when. On request we send you the text of the version you accepted.
These terms and the other legal pages are available in German and English. The sign-in page and the rest of the service are in English. We have not signed up to any codes of conduct.
Who may take part
- Only people we invite may take part.
- You must be 18 or older.
- Use the test account for private purposes only. Do not use it for personal data you process for an employer or a client.
Your account
- Your account is personal. Do not pass it on and do not let anyone else use it.
- Do not share sign-in links or a signed-in browser with others.
- Keep the devices you sign in with secure, and sign out on devices other people use.
- If you think someone else has used your account or a sign-in link, tell us at once at contact@getlinkage.com. We then end all sessions of your account by locking it and unlocking it again straight away, so your links pause only for that moment, and give you a new sign-in link.
linkage uses no passwords. A sign-in lasts up to 30 days; after that you need a new sign-in link from us.
How linkage works
You upload a file, and linkage gives you a link of the form lnkg.link/key/file-name. Anyone who has the link downloads the file directly, without an account and without a page in between. Several files are sent together as one zip archive. Files are always delivered as downloads, never opened as web pages.
In Files you see your transfers and can rename them, extend them and delete them.
Limits of the test account
- Up to 50 GB per transfer.
- Up to 150 GB of live links in total.
- At most 2,000 live transfers and 10 uploads in progress at the same time.
- An upload must finish within 1 day of its start; an unfinished upload is cancelled and deleted.
- A link lasts 1, 7 or 30 days. You can extend it, up to 90 days after the upload.
- A link stops working once the requests for its file add up to 500 times the file's size. Each request counts with the whole file or the part of it that it asks for, even if the download stops early, and with at least 1 MiB; a file smaller than 1 MiB counts as 1 MiB.
These are the limits on the date of this version. They can change as set out in the section “Availability, backups and data loss”, which also says how we tell you about a change; the Plans page shows the current size per transfer, link lifetime, live links and storage.
When you delete a transfer, its link stops working and the file is deleted at once. When a link expires, its file is deleted within the hour. Deleted files cannot be restored. Expired transfers stay listed in Files for 30 days, without the file.
Recipients and sharing links
- Anyone who has a link can download the file. Recipients can pass the link on; we cannot control that.
- Share links only with the recipients you choose. Do not publish them on public websites, forums or social networks.
- If you paste a link into a chat or social app, the app may fetch a preview with the file name, size and expiry date.
- Mail systems and security scanners may open links before the recipient does. Download counts in Files are therefore approximate.
- To stop a link, delete the transfer in Files.
Prohibited content and conduct
Do not use linkage for illegal content or illegal purposes. In particular, do not upload, store or share:
- child sexual abuse material; we report every case to the Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA);
- terrorist content;
- malware or other malicious code of any kind, including samples for research, testing or teaching, also when it is packed, encrypted or labelled as harmless;
- phishing pages, scams or other fraud;
- content that infringes copyright, trade marks or other rights of others;
- personal data of others without a legal basis, and intimate images of a person shared without their consent;
- content that glorifies violence, incites hatred, threatens or defames people, or is likely to endanger the development of children or young people.
Also do not:
- send links in bulk to people who did not ask for them (spam);
- work around the limits of your account;
- upload files in bulk with scripts or bots;
- search linkage for security weaknesses, for example with vulnerability scanners, attack it or overload it;
- break the rules in the sections “Your account” and “Recipients and sharing links”.
If you notice a security weakness, tell us at contact@getlinkage.com. What we do when these rules are broken is set out in the section “Content moderation”.
Your responsibility for content
You are responsible for the files you upload and for the people you send links to. You need the rights to share each file, and a legal basis for any personal data of others inside it.
linkage does not check files before their links work. Apart from Cloudflare's CSAM Scanning Tool, it does not scan their contents. We act on notices and on what we notice ourselves (“Content moderation”).
Rights to your files
You keep all rights to your files. So that we can run linkage, you grant us a free, non-exclusive licence, limited to the time a file is stored, to:
- store the file and copy it as far as storage and delivery require;
- make it available to anyone who has its link;
- process it technically as far as running and protecting the service requires, for example to show its name, size and expiry date in link previews.
We use your files for nothing else, unless the law requires it. The licence ends when the file is deleted.
Content moderation
This section sets out our rules for content moderation under the Digital Services Act (Regulation (EU) 2022/2065, DSA).
How we learn about content
- Notices: anyone can report a link, by email to abuse@getlinkage.com or through our report form (see Report a link).
- Authorities: orders and information from courts and authorities.
- Our own checks: we may check transfers ourselves, for example when a file name or size suggests a breach of these terms.
Automated tools
We use these automated tools to protect linkage. They work without a person deciding in each case:
- limits on requests per IP address in Cloudflare's network; further requests are refused for a short time (current values in the Privacy notice);
- a block list of IP addresses that we fill by hand during attacks;
- links accept only requests that download or check a file and cannot be embedded in other web pages, for example as an image, video or frame; other requests are refused;
- Cloudflare's Browser Integrity Check and DDoS protection, which block requests that look like attacks;
- Cloudflare's CSAM Scanning Tool, which compares images in Cloudflare's cache with known child sexual abuse material and blocks matches; linkage delivers files without caching them, so the tool rarely sees them;
- the upload, storage and download limits of your account (“How linkage works”);
- limits on our report and contact forms on how often one IP address may submit, how many links and how much text one notice may hold and how many notices and messages we accept a day in total (each form states its limits), and a hidden field that only bots fill in; a notice the form refuses can be sent to abuse@getlinkage.com by email instead, or by letter (see Report a link);
- cleaning of file names: invisible characters and control characters, which can disguise a file type, are removed, path separators are replaced with a hyphen, and if the original name ends in a common extension (up to 10 letters A to Z or digits after the last dot), a new name you give the file keeps it;
- link status rules: expired and deleted links stop working.
Apart from the CSAM Scanning Tool, none of these tools judges what a file contains. If that tool blocks an image, Cloudflare tells us, and Dennis Wiebler reviews the case in person and decides on any further measure. Every other decision about your content or your account, such as deleting a transfer, locking an account or ending access, is taken by Dennis Wiebler in person. We record each of these decisions.
Measures
If content is illegal or breaks these terms, we may take these measures:
- delete a transfer: its link stops working at once, and the file cannot be restored;
- lock your account: all your sessions end, you cannot sign in, upload or edit, and all your links stop working. Recipients see that the link is gone. When we unlock the account, the links that have not expired work again;
- delete all files of a locked account;
- end your access early (“End of access”);
- end the contract for good cause (“Termination”).
Where it helps the decision and puts no one at risk, we may ask for your view first.
How we decide
We handle notices and take measures diligently, objectively and proportionately, with due regard to the rights and legitimate interests of everyone involved, including your freedom of expression and information. We choose the mildest measure that is enough. We consider in particular how serious a breach is, how clearly it is shown, whether it is repeated and what harm it can cause to others. If a notice clearly shows illegal content, we remove it or disable access to it without undue delay.
Reports to authorities
If we become aware of information giving rise to a suspicion that a criminal offence involving a threat to the life or safety of a person has taken place, is taking place or is likely to take place, we promptly inform the law enforcement authorities, in Germany the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), as Article 18 DSA requires. We report child sexual abuse material to the BKA in every case. We follow orders of courts and authorities as the law requires.
Statement of reasons
If we take a measure against your content or your account, we tell you by email, at the latest when the measure takes effect, unless an authority or the law requires us to wait. The email states:
- the measure, where it applies and how long it lasts;
- the facts and circumstances it is based on, including whether it follows a notice or our own check and, where strictly necessary, who sent the notice;
- whether automated tools were used;
- the legal or contractual ground, and why the content is illegal or breaks these terms;
- how you can challenge the decision (“Review of a decision”).
If Cloudflare's CSAM Scanning Tool blocks an image on its own, we send this email once Cloudflare has informed us and we have reviewed the case, with the same exception. If we act on an order of a court or authority, we also tell you about the order, as far as it allows.
Review of a decision
If you disagree with a measure, you can reply to our email, or write to contact@getlinkage.com, within 6 months of the measure. Tell us why. Dennis Wiebler reviews the decision in person, not by automated means, and answers you by email. If the measure was wrong, we reverse it as far as possible, for example by unlocking your account. Deleted files cannot be restored.
This informal review is not an internal complaint-handling system within the meaning of Article 20 DSA. We do not take part in out-of-court dispute settlement. Your right to go to court is not affected.
End of access
Your access has a fixed end date. Unless we told you another date before your first sign-in, this is 90 days after your account was created; the Plans page shows it under Account. We may move the date later. We bring it forward only as set out in the section “Termination”.
After the access end you can no longer sign in, upload or edit transfers. Your links keep working until they expire. If you want them to stop earlier, delete the transfers before your access ends, or ask us to delete them.
The contract ends with your access. Your account, with any files left, is deleted 6 months after the access end. While an open notice concerns one of your transfers, we keep the account until the notice is decided. If you ask us, we delete it earlier, unless an open notice, a challenge of one of our decisions or a legal claim requires us to keep it.
Availability, backups and data loss
linkage is in beta. We do not promise a particular level of availability or speed, or features beyond those described in the section “How linkage works”. Maintenance, errors and outages can happen.
During the beta we may change features and limits of the test account without a new version of these terms, but only for these reasons: to protect linkage and others against attacks and misuse; because a law, a court or an authority requires it; or because our hosting provider Cloudflare changes its services or its terms. A change goes no further than its reason requires. Links you have already created keep their expiry date unless an attack, misuse or an order of a court or an authority requires otherwise. We tell you about a change by email at least 2 weeks before it takes effect. If its reason leaves less time, we tell you as soon as possible: before the change or, where an attack, misuse or an order of a court or an authority requires immediate action, after it. Fixing a fault so that linkage works as these terms describe is not a change. You can end the contract at any time (“Termination”).
linkage keeps each file only for its lifetime and makes no backups. Expired and deleted files cannot be restored. Keep your own copy of every file you send.
Liability
We are liable without limitation:
- for intent and gross negligence;
- for injury to life, body or health;
- under the Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz);
- wherever liability is mandatory by law, in particular under Art. 82 GDPR;
- where we gave a guarantee or fraudulently concealed a defect.
For slight negligence we are liable only if we breach an obligation that makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on which you may regularly rely, for example the obligation to store your file during its lifetime and to deliver it to the people who have its link. In that case our liability is limited to the damage that is foreseeable and typical for a contract of this kind. Otherwise we are not liable for slight negligence.
These rules also apply to the people we engage to perform the contract.
If a file is lost and you kept no copy of your own, this may count as contributory fault on your part.
Termination
- You can end the contract at any time, without notice, by email to contact@getlinkage.com.
- We can end it with 2 weeks' notice by email, for example when the beta ends.
- Either party can end it without notice for good cause. Good cause for us is in particular a serious breach of these terms, for example content listed in the section “Prohibited content and conduct”, or a breach that continues or is repeated after we warned you by email, for example passing on the account.
When the contract ends, your access ends (“End of access”): you can no longer sign in or upload, and your links keep working until they expire. If you want your files deleted at once, tell us and we delete them. If we end the contract for good cause, we may also lock your account and delete its files at once. Your account is deleted 6 months after the access end, as set out in the section “End of access”.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for example for new features or changes in the law. We tell you about every change by email before it applies, and about significant changes in good time. Features and limits can also change without a new version, as set out in the section “Availability, backups and data loss”.
A new version applies to you only once you accept it. The sign-in page names the date of the current version, and you accept a new version by signing in after it was published. Your silence or further use does not count as acceptance. Until then, the version you accepted last applies.
If you do not accept a new version, either party may end the contract as set out in the section “Termination”.
Applicable law
German law applies to this contract. If you are a consumer and have your habitual residence in another country, you keep the protection that the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law of that country give you.
Language
These terms exist in German and English. Both versions have the same content. If they differ, the version more favourable to you applies.
